Blood Simple: In the contemporary barren panhandle of the Lone Star State, a likeable bartender is having an affair with the bar-owner's wife. When the owner discovers this disloyalty, he hires a cagey private detective (played with irascible confidence by inimitable M. Emmet Walsh) to murder his employee. The detective, however, decides to take a turn at blackmail, setting in motion a chain of mistaken identities and fatally misunderstood motives, ultimately involving the original couple who decide to commit a murder but don't know how to do it. Blood Simple thus winds up being anything but simple. Enthrallingly shot by the Cohn Brothers, who went on to make Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, and The Hudsucker Proxy, Blood Simple is a witty, offbeat thriller that offers a feast for the film afficianado who is not faint of heart.
