Music: Bluegrass from The Angry O’Haras Thurs., June 14

The Angry O’Haras play Best Video Performance Space on Thursday, June 14. The show starts at 8 PM and the cover is $5.

If you need to pin a label on The Angry O’Haras, probably the closest thing is Progressive Bluegrass. But it’s just not that simple. Bluegrass is their compass, but they use it to navigate many musical regions while employing fiddle, guitar, banjo and bass as the instrumental foundation for three- and four-part harmonies. The majority of their songs are reinventions of traditional folk, favorites you may have grown up with, plus lots of new music with an added twist. And it seems their music often makes people want to move their body parts around.

The group is Chris Anderson (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Mike Crescenzo (stand-up bass, vocals), Gerry O’Hara (banjo, guitar, vocals), Austin Scelzo (fiddle, vocals) and sometimes Casey Marsh (vocals, percussion).

They enjoy performing a wide-range of eclectic music. From Bill Monroe to the Beatles. The Everly Brothers to the Avett Brothers. Oh yeah, they also do a memorable rendition of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
