Peacock_Flounders_72dpiThe Peacock Flounders play the Best Video Performance Space this Thursday, Jan. 17. the music starts at 8 PM and there is a $5 cover.

The Peacock Flounders are Ron Sutfin, Kerry Miller, Jeff Wiederschall, Sal Paradise. The band was formed in the winter of 2003 as a musical outlet for the original songs of New Haven area musicians Ron Sutfin and Kerry Miller.

The songs are guitar driven with a pop sensibility in the melodies. Kerry and Ron have been playing their original music together since 1980. Their influences are rooted in the British and US punk rock of the late 70’s and early 80’s. Alex Chilton, Big Star, Replacements, Sex Pistols, Generation X, The Stranglers, Todd Rundgren, U2, The Clash, Wipers, Dead Boys, X, Black Flag, Gun Club, Jeffery Lee Pierce, Naked Raygun, Smithereens, were favorites.

Their band Valley of Kings album “Victory Garden” reached #7 on the national CMJ new music charts in 1985 The Peacock Flounders first show was a Saturday night in June ’03 at Cafe Nine in New Haven. Their second show was at the Ideat Village stage at The International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven.

The band has recorded an album CD at producer Ron Sutfin’s Wildwood Ranch Recording Studio in Durham Connecticut. It’s available to buy at CD Baby. Here’s what some of the critics are saying: New Haven Register Entertainment Editor Pat Ferrucci said, “The 10 tune effort that is ‘Hello Beautiful,’ is a stellar record from the New Haven quartet… dense guitar driven, rootsy…very good songwriting from scene veterans Miller and Sutfin …Simply put, ‘Hello Beautiful’ is exactly what you’d expect from the quartet if you’ve ever seen them live, and that’s a big compliment.” New Haven Advocate, Mike Sembos: “Ten tracks of solid power…There’s plenty of substance and creativity.”
