Tiny Box Booking presents a four-band bill on Wednesday, Aug. 23, featuring Roz and the Rice Cakes, Teenage Halloween, Quiet Giant, and Glambat. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is a sliding scale of $5-10.

Roz and the Rice Cakes.

Roz and the Rice Cakes offer indie-pop magic hailing from Providence, RI. After several past US tours and a slew of material under their belts, Roz and the Rice Cakes return to the forefront of the music scene with their most recent single, ‘East Coast’, off their upcoming LP ‘Devotion’, out in the Fall off Team Love Records.

Teenage Halloween.

The New Brunswick, NJ power-pop group Teenage Halloween play a wide arrange of music, from full-frontal rock to soft piano ballads that keeps you on the edge of your feet.

Quiet Giant.

Connecticut’s dream pop goldmine, Quiet Giant consists of Danielle Capalbo (guitar, vocals), Mark Almodovar (bass), and Jared Thompson (drums). Since forming in 2015, they’ve played all around the northeast and have even released a full length album, “Loom,” as well as a 2017 EP “You’re in Heaven.” Their timeline of work trades in-your-face indie rock with a memorable blend of haunting vocals, echoing melodies, and clean reverb pop, displaying the wide spectrum of sounds this band can experiment with in only a couple years.

Glambat.

Glambat is a New Haven indie-folk band lead by Emily Alderman (vocals, guitar), creating sultry tunes for your listening pleasure. Emily will play this show solo.

Music: Danielle Capalbo (Quiet Giant), Sean Harold (The Mid Season) play Thurs., July 27

Danielle Capalbo (singer and leader of Quiet Giant) and Sean Harold of The Mid Season play Best Video Performance Space on Thursday, July 27. The music starts at 8 Pm and the cover is $5.

Quiet Giant (formerly loom) is a four-piece indie rock band from Bethel, Conn. Solo, it is the performing identity of singer and songwriter Danielle Capalbo.

Danielle Capalbo of Quiet Giant.

The group’s first single, “Every Crime,” drew attention from The Deli in 2014 and was named one of Moon Cheese Baby’s top tracks of the year (WCNI). They released their debut album, “loom,” in September 2015. The Metal Dad called it one of his favorite non-metal albums of the year.

Lonesome Noise called the album (Telegraph Recording Company) one “that’s going to be, and should be, viewed as one of the best to emerge from this small state with the big music scene. Quiet Giant have blown the lid off the proverbial music box.”

Since 2014, the band has performed across the Northeast, including opening spots for Hop Along and Speedy Ortiz, and two appearances at New London’s “I Am Fest,” an annual music showcase.

The Deli praised Quiet Giant’s May 2016 EP “You’re in Heaven”:

Bethel, CT rockers Quiet Giant dropped their latest EP, You’re In Heaven, a five-song odyssey that feels more like a multi-movement work than a standard release.  Beginning with the bright, bouncy “Heaven” and continuing all the way through the heavier, ambient “Knee of the Curve”, the EP connects through a 20 minute crescendo, an interesting narrative thread that keeps the record intact as an artistic idea, while keeping the autonomy of each track as an individual concept.

The Mid Season is the solo folk project of composer and producer Sean Harold. His debut full length album, “Give me Jesus … Give me Plague,” was released in December of 2015, expanding upon a 2013 EP entitled, “Till We’re Feeling Saved.” Lyrically introspective, delicately layered, and harmonically rich, The Mid Season sings of depression and loss as beautiful vignettes in a fleeting life. Live, longtime collaborator Ray Zvovushe plays guitar and sings backup vocals.

The New CT Indie calls “loom” “a textured … affair that decorates Capalbo’s songs with a blend of stadium-sized guitar delay and noisy shoegaze, making a strong case for Quiet Giant as not only a moody dream pop outlet, but a full-fledged rock band.” Since 2014, the band has performed across the Northeast, including opening spots for Hop Along and Speedy Ortiz, and two appearances at New London’s “I Am Fest,” an annual music showcase.

Robbie Vozza

Robbie Vozza

Writing and recording solo music for the better part of 14 years, Robbie Vozza (The Refectory) finds his writing and recording process to be the most constant, therapeutic, and meditative force in his life. Pulling influence from the likes of Elliot Smith, Bon Iver, Jose Gonzalez, and the Beatles, Robbie’s indie-folk stylings grab hold of your deepest hidden emotions. At times lyrically very dark, Robbie’s hope is to help release any darkness the listener may be holding deep within their soul.

Robbie’s main musical project is a band called The Refectory. He plays guitar and does lead vocals for this band.
