Music: Tiny Box Booking presents indie rock show Sat., July 15, at 7 PM—Bilge Rat, Arthur Shea, Big Nick, Hellrazor

Tiny Box Booking presents a four-band bill of indie punk rock at Best Video Performance Space on Saturday, July 15. Featured acts are Bilge Rat, Arthur Shea, Big Nick, and Hellrazor. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is $5-10 (sliding scale, pay what you can in that range).

Bilge Rat are a grungy New Haven-based rock band led by guitarist Michael Kusek. Quinn Pirie (also in Kindred Queer)_ plays drums and Ryan Kalentkowski (Jacket Thor) is on bass.

Arthur Shea hail from Philadelphia and feature members of the group Joy Again.

Big Nick is another punk band from Philadelphia.

Hellrazor blends the sort of heavy, ear-splitting rock that typically soundtracks the underworld’s various outposts on Earth—convenience-store parking lots, secluded spots deep in the woods, plazas where “skaters” can show off their “tricks”—and its dealings with unexpected forays into pop. Do not let the “lighter side” of the band, as exhibited on the deceptively sweet “Vegas” (with a reference to “Sin City” right in the title!!!) and the contemplative “Jargon Scott,” fool you! Since their inception as a Rancid cover band, Hellrazor have proven themselves to be devoted to elevating the lewd and gross, recording a chunk of “Satan’s Smile” at a Philadelphia recording studio with the horrifying name Sex Dungeon and chanting “million dollars, million dollars” over the ragged riffs on the album opener “A Cool Mill.”

Music: Tiny Box Booking presents Posture & the Grizzly, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Milkshakes, Just Friends Fri., Nov. 18, at 7 PM

Tiny Box Booking presents a night of party punk at Best Video Performance Space on Friday, Nov. 18. With four bands—Posture & The Grizzly, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Milkshakes, Just Friends—the show gets off to an early start at 7 PM. The cover is $5.

Posture & The Grizzly

Posture & The Grizzly

If there was ever a time for the DIY punk rock scene to make a comeback after a decade of local growth, now is Posture & The Grizzly’s time. The band’s fast-paced, forward-hitting melodies serve as a homage to the stylings of contemporary Pop-Punk that were prominent in the early 2000’s, a platform that lifted the likes of Brand New and Blink-182 into the forefront of the Punk/Emo scene. With the recent release of their newest album, I Am Satan, that same nostalgia can be felt in the bell-tone tenor voice of Posture frontman, Jordan Chmielowski. As more and more publications such as The New Yorker fundamentally grant them the Tom Delonge crown, you’ll see an equal and unparalleled takeover of the country-wide scene, with Posture & The Grizzly at the reigns.

Prince Daddy & The Hyena

Prince Daddy & The Hyena

Riding the wave on a recently coined term, “weed pop,” Prince Daddy is leading a truly authentic indie rock movement straight out of their New York/Pennsylvania homes. With the culmination of songs on their newest Summer release, I Thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving, Prince Daddy manages to capture a perfect storm of catchy melodies, infectious lyricism, and the true test to how much harsh noise an amp can handle. Their current tour is in celebration of a recent Fall split release with the band Just Friends, with each band paying tribute to their dad-like inspirations, Weezer, with covers paying tribute to an Alt Rock wave that Weezer similarly began pioneering in the good ol’ days. Be sure to catch a date near you!

Milkshakes

Milkshakes

Milkshakes is like a big lump of always wet clay. Over the past 5 years the band has taken many different shapes and molds. At its current iteration, Milkshakes only has one original member left, Timothy Diltz, who is also the band’s primary songwriter. The band also features three other guys that Tim knows from his days playing in Milkshakes. They have an LP coming out by the end of 2016, so keep an eye out for that!! Long live Tim, and long live Milkshakes!

Just Friends

Just Friends

Consisting of seven different members all coordinating a litany of instruments in a DIY project to remember, California natives Just Friends emerge as a powerful new addition to an ever-changing scene. With their recent split release with Prince Daddy, they embark on a tour around the country that will expose audiences to their unique perspective on indie punk/rock.
