Music: Rock ‘n’ roll band Dust Hat debuts, Bill Beckett opens Fri., Dec. 23

New rock ‘n’ roll band Dust Hat—featuring filmmaker Brendan Toller on guitar and vocals—makes its debut this Friday at Best Video Performance Space. Guitarist Bill Beckett opens. The show starts at 8 PM and there is a $5 cover.

Garage-y rock ‘n’ roll party band Dust Hat dubs itself a rock ‘n’ roll affront for modern times on its Bandcamp page. The group features Robin Woerner (Vox, Maracas, Vibes); Brendan Toller (Vox, Guitar, Tambourine Man); Jeff Slocum (Guitar, Fire Extinguisher); Dan Soto (Thunderstick); and Rob Ruby (Beat of The Traps). (Woerner is out of the country and won’t be part of this show.)

Bill Beckett describes the music he is playing as “melodic, modal, dreamy.” Among the myriad influences he names are “Elizabethan, Medieval, 19th-20th century French Classical, Afghani, Indian, Psychedelic, The Hagakure, and Films in general.” Artists name-checked by Beckett are “Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, Purcell, Debussy, Satie, Ravel, Kurosawa, Fellini, Jim Jarmusch, and John Fahey.”
