Reelin’ Away plays Best Video Performance Space on Friday, Oct. 14. The show starts at 8 PM and the cover is $5.
It’s all about Trad with Reelin’ Away. If you’re one of those folks who thinks that music only comes into its own when it’s got a few centuries under its belt, who’s ever tapped their foot to a banjo or danced to the strains of a fiddle, you’ll enjoy spending an evening with Reelin’ Away.
This New Haven-based group of musical friends has been playing for years together and in different bands. Their repertoire is an eclectic mix that draws from a combination of instrumental and vocal traditions: lively Appalachian-style dance tunes, old-time Carter Family songs, and traditional Irish jigs and reels with influences of bluegrass, folk, and gospel with tight harmonies and a fresh take on old favorites.
The group features Willow Ann Sirch on fiddle, viola and vocals; Jim Sirch on Irish flutes, whistle, clawhammer banjo and bodhran; Steve (Mad Dog) Ross on acoustic guitar, bouzouki, and tenor banjo; and David Sasso on mandolin, octave-mandolin, and tenor banjo.
