Paper’s ride, like that of all video shop proprietors, has slowed considerably over the past two decades with the ascendancy of the internet, with businesses like Netflix and Amazon cornering the market and putting most shops out of business. Paper’s is one of the few survivors, largely because he and his loyal staff always offered something far less quantifiable than profits: a sense of community and a deep love of film culture.
