Music: Passing Strange, Parkway South play Fri., July 6

The bands Passing Strange and Parkway South play Best Video Performance Space on Friday, July 6. The show starts at 8 PM and the cover is $5.

Passing Strange was born from the shadowy folds of human emotion, a passion for music, love, freedom, and truth. The musical stylings of this duo are laced in jazz, bedazzled in blues, and brewed in a vat of vintage rock.  In the summer of 2017, Passing Strange recorded their debut album “The Water And The Woods” at Dobas Music Studios in Hamden, Connecticut. This collection of 11 original songs showcases a range of styles, while highlighting the raw energy conveyed in the band’s live performances. Their second album, “Come Whatever Storms,” is due out in 2018.

Hailing from the dark and dreary recesses of Southern Connecticut, Kate and Anthony formed Passing Strange in April 2017, after Kate performed solo during an open mic. As Anthony looked on, he thought about how drums would bring depth to the talented songwriter’s creations. He suggested they play together at the same open mic the following week, to determine whether they were musically compatible, and the rest is history.

Parkway South is a 4 piece American Rock Band with a lush sound and Blues/Country feel, from Fairfield County, Connecticut. A few of their influences include Jackson Browne, John Mayer, Lady Antebellum, Eric Clapton and Fleetwood Mac. Founded in 2009 by husband and wife Michael Liebensohn and Heather Prescott Liebensohn, they named themselves after CT’s state route 15 (aka Merritt Parkway) that runs from Fairfield County into New York, where Heather would come up with song ideas during her excruciatingly long daily commutes. Heather’s emotive, soulful and powerful vocals richly blend with Mike’s vocals and melodic guitar hooks, while our bassist Doug Wray and drummer Dave Reynolds lock down the groove.
