Music: Four-band indie rock bill Thurs., Jan. 25, with Bonzo, Bilge Rat, Pinfinger, Short Month

Best Video Performance Space hosts a four-band indie rock bill this Thursday, featuring Bonzo (from Michigan) along with local acts Bilge Rat, Pinfinger and Short Month. The music starts at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $8 in advance and are available though Brown Paper Tickets, $10 at the door. The show is presented by Couch Yeti Booking and Promotions.

Bonzo is an “existent-rock” group from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Featuring John (guitar, bass, vocals), Maya (guitar, bass, drums) and Tristan (drums), they have six recordings available through Bandcamp. Their Bandcamp sites tags thehm with such identifiers as “post-rock,” “post-emo,” “Little cat” and “original dog.” As one supporter on Bandcamp put it, in reference to Bonzo’s album “Stranger,” “This record is waking up from a dream to everything around you being fuzzy, loud and you can’t quite remember a thing that happened but it all feels so familiar.”

Bilge Rat are a grungy New Haven-based rock band led by guitarist Michael Kusek. Quinn Pirie (also in Kindred Queer) plays drums and Mark A is on bass.

Pinfinger, from West Haven, plays “real life guitar rock from the old country,” according to their Bandcamp page. Band members are Marty Laydon, Shane Williams, Chwas Torok and Chwas Davidson.

Based in the greater Hartford area, Short Month features band members Andy Dauphinais, Tyler Shand and Matt Merton. Under genre, the describe themselves as “Pre-88, Post-04.” Among the tags on their Bandcamp page are “alternative, New England, emo, indie rock, pop punk, post-hardcore and power pop.”

War War War hails from Flint, Michigan and play “dreamy Americana from the Midwest.” On their 2017 album “I Saw an Angel, I Buried Its Body, ” all songs were written by Samuel Boyhtari (pictured), with contributions from: Anthony Spak (Drums), Zane Smith (Bass), Travis Kerton (Piano and Synths), Shea Socrates (Auxiliary Guitar), Ally Evenson (Vocals on tracks 5, 6, and 8) and Jess Duncan (Cello on track 5).

Reduction Plan.

Reduction Plan’s music comes from within solitude’s frigid embrace. “I will never get what I want,” broods frontman Daniel Manning on self-released debut, Paradise. The heavily reverberated breaths and ominous atmosphere that open Reduction Plan’s latest full-length album, Somewhere, evoke that same sense of solitude, one that is almost palpable. Pulling from 80s goth, 90s shoegaze and industrial, and the anti-folk tendencies of acts like Grouper and Mount Eerie, Reduction Plan uses both noise and space to illustrate the power of silence. A swell of synths, pulsing drum machines, and haunting murmurs is the foundation upon which the project draws its sound.

Ross Menze, who drums for The Mountain Movers, will open the night with a short set of electronic loops and ambent noise.
