Music: Western Estates & Zach Andersen play Wed., Mar. 30

Indie rock group Western Estates and singer-songwriter Zach Andersen play Best Video Performance Space on Wednesday, Mar. 30. The show starts at 8 PM and there is a $5 cover.

Western Estates

Western Estates

Presently writing and recording in Southern Connecticut, Western Estates is an embryonic combination of new and old friends playing tuneful rock sparkling with creativity and a dash of prog for good measure. Featuring a stunningly sweet female vocalist and 3 guys trying to change the number of  the beast to 203, Western Estates invites you to their universe.

Laura Klein (vocals, cello), Glenn Furst (guitar), Matt Cranmer (bass, vocals), and Jarrod Ruby (drums) came together last fall to challenge themselves to create a sound grounded in rock yet constantly reaching towards an eclectic variety of influences. Their songs range from romantic duets about carnival rides to stoner-rock odes to murder and mayhem, revenge-ballads to wistfully temporal love songs, all while maintaining their roots in garage-rock.

Zach Andersen

Zach Andersen

After breaking his neck, all Zach Andersen could do during the recuperation process was play video games and learn to play guitar. Once he was all healed, he jokingly thought it would be fun to write his own songs. A few minutes later, this joke turned into a new passion and the formation of The Andersen Brothers (or something like that). Along with his brother, Eric, Zach took the local music scene by storm with their catchy, relatable and nostalgic songs. Their first album, “Unrequited Daze”, was released in 2011 and contained crowd favorite “However Hard She Tries” and several other TAB classics. While TAB is on hiatus, Zach continues to play both solo shows as well as gigs with his other band, “The Or Something Like Thats” (or whatever he decides to call them on any given night).
