Ian St. George and A Pallet for the Shoal share the bill at a May 24, Saturday night rave-up at Best Video Film & Cultural Center. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is $10.
Loud, fuzzy, and infectiously catchy with a string of singles that all seem to outdo the previous one. One may find themselves asking the question, who or what exactly IS an Ian St. George? While just about any Western Massachusetts based record head or musician would probably be able to answer this question quite easily, they will instead keep their lips sealed, merely encouraging you to see for yourself.
With 4 singles in the can, and the debut record, "Emergency Index" already being cited as an "instant classic," ISG hits the sweet spot somewhere right between the dreamy hypno guitars of Sonic Youth, paired with a healthy dose of harmonized guitar leads that Scott Gorham himself would approve of, and enough power pop sparkle to make even the snootiest of music snobs perk up their ears in intrigue to have a listen.
The group's debut album "Emergency Index" is available everywhere now. Don't you think it's time to see for yourself what the fuss is all about?
A Pallet for the Shoal is a trio from the New Haven area consisting of Lucas Healy-Hibbard (bass), Chris Maiorano (drums), and Clay Eles (vocals / guitar). The group has been performing their original music for 7 years. Nostalgic, country-folk-and-pop-tinged hooks mingle with gritty, lacerating guitars and sweet, piping harmonica, anchored by a solid, thumping, fortification of bass and drums.
